October was a very busy month for Guild Trainer/ Assessor Linden Pirrone visiting her students in Brisbane South. One of the stores Linden visited, Loganholme Chemmart, boasts an extensive wholefoods section within the store, which makes a great addition to the services offered in the pharmacy. Chemmart also has a full-time naturopath in store, making the pharmacy a one-stop health foods location.
According to Mintel’s Senior Trends & Innovation Consultant Jane Barnett (2014) consumers are more health conscious than they were five years ago and seeking whole foods and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not just topical, but trendy. “People are becoming more informed about their health and are increasingly seeking out superfoods free from chemicals and additives, locally and seasonally sourced,” according to Ms. Barnett. With organic and wholefood markets opening all over the state, it is great to see pharmacies providing additional services, including wholefoods and homeopathy and complementary medicines.
