It’s been a very busy few months for Trainer and Assessor, Sharyn McErlean as the facilitator of classes full of excited students completing their Certificate II, Fundamentals of Community Pharmacy course.
Sharyn has really enjoyed teaching and spending time with passionate students from around the State.
We spoke to one of Sharyn’s students to see how she enjoyed the course and what she learnt…
Why did you decide to enrol in the Certificate II in Community Pharmacy course?
I love to work and have never been unemployed before. So, when I arrived in Australia I was looking for job opportunities. I actually have a pharmacy background already (being a Registered Pharmacist in the Philippines), but being in a new environment I thought doing a course to equip myself with additional knowledge and acquaint myself with the country’s laws and regulations, policies and roles of pharmacy in health care would be a good idea. I did some research and found the best place to start was at the Pharmacy Guild of Australia (Qld Branch).
What did you like most about the course?
All of the theory we learned in class was everything that was happening in my placement. Everything was relevant and I have been able to apply it in a practical way. It feels so good when you have an understanding of what you need to do.
It was one of the most intensive training courses I have experienced, and it was wonderfully presented.
How did your placement go?
Everything went smoothly for the two weeks. It was lovely to work in such a great environment with wonderful staff. Everybody was open and willing to teach and so forgiving for little mistakes or imperfections. The classes in the weeks prior were so helpful, as they gave me a direction and basic knowledge of what to expect on placement.
Would you recommend the course to others?
Absolutely! I feel a great sense of achievement as a result of this accomplishment. I developed confidence and now I feel more comfortable talking with people in my new environment.
