Community Work Skills – What’s it all about?

The Community Work Skills – Fundamentals of Community Pharmacy program is a unique program providing jobseekers with the opportunity to gain formal training and work ready skills to commence a career as pharmacy assistant in community pharmacy. This program is proudly funded and supported by the Queensland Government under the Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative.  As part of the initiative, The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Queensland Branch will deliver SIR20116 Certificate II in Community Pharmacy in the Brisbane, Ipswich, Townsville, Mackay and Cairns regions.

The Pharmacy Guild provides training to disadvantaged job seekers including those who are under-employed in the labour market, people with disability, mature-age job seekers, parents re-entering the workforce, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Over the six week course duration, our participants complete 12 units of competency which include the following elements:

  • S2/S3
  • Workplace health and safety
  • Product knowledge
  • Customer service
  • Merchandising
  • Infection control

The training is delivered full time face to face with a combination of classroom and practical learning. As part of the six week program, participants are required to complete eight days of unpaid vocational placement in community pharmacy, preparing them for the workplace and life as a pharmacy assistant. Some of our graduates have gained employment in their placement pharmacy and have been provided the opportunity to upskill by enrolling in SIR30116 Certificate III in Community Pharmacy.

We have received very positive feedback regarding our graduates from the workplace supervisors who have supported them throughout their vocational placement. Our next Brisbane course commences on the 14th January 2019, so please let us know if your pharmacy would like to host these motivated participants throughout their vocational placement.

This program is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking for a career in community pharmacy, so if If you know of anyone who would like to commence a rewarding career as a pharmacy assistant, please contact The Pharmacy Guild, Queensland Branch on 07 3831 3788 or [email protected]
