An Olympic champion’s insights for resilience and success at PA2016

Join Olympic Gold medal diver, Matthew Mitcham as he shares with 2016 Pharmacy Assistant National Conference (PA2016) delegates the story of how emotional intelligence, resilience and focused thinking helped him to become the best in his sport.

Matthew Mitcham is recognised as one of Australia’s greatest athletes. At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Mitcham received the highest score in Olympic history for a single dive following his performance in the 10 metre platform event. He is the first Australian male to win an Olympic Gold medal in the sport since 1924.

Mitcham went on to compete at the 2012 London Olympic Games, despite battling injury. He failed to make the finals but his focus, strength and determination earned him the title of one of Australia’s most likeable athletes.

“I’m very, very grateful for all of my experiences in diving – with all of its ups and downs and highs and lows and wins and bombs, all of it, that’s what makes an experience really three dimensional – the good stuff as well as the bad”, Mitcham said.

Away from the water, Mitcham is an author, accomplished cabaret performer, and an advocate and spokesperson for diversity and equality.
